The Skin Care Revolution

The entire skin care industry has been growing at a phenomenal rate the past 10 years and will continue to grow during the next 20-30 years. The baby boomer generation is beginning to focus more on health, beauty and anti-aging. Baby boomers represent the largest portion of the population, they are well established professionally and they are beginning to age. All this means that they are increasing their focus on skin care and personal health and beauty items. The skin care revolution is developing in many different directions:

1) natural and/or organic skin care and cosmetics;
2) male skin care;
3) advanced anti-aging and anti-wrinkle skin care and cosmetics;
4) more natural looking cosmetics;
5) cosmetic surgery, botox and similar advanced anti-aging treatments;
6) advanced over the counter acne treatment products; and
7) increase in skin care spas, clinics and salons.

Skin care has made significant technological advancements and products are becoming more and more effective. The skin care industry has also become increasingly competitive which forces companies to constantly improve products and develop new products in order to remain in business. Despite all of the advanced skin care, anti-aging and similar products there is also a strong focus on natural and organic skin care lotions, cleansers and facial treatments. There is no sign that this industry is going to slow down any time soon. There is a tremendous market demand which is fueling the investment in advanced research and development. All of these factors makes it much easier for you to develop your own effective skin care program.

There is a lot of excitement in the skin care industry. Modern science is making it easier for women to have healthier and younger looking skin much longer than previously. Many of these skin care techniques can be used in the comfort of your own home. The ability to preserve skin longer diminishes the need for expensive cosmetic surgery or at least deferring it until much later in life. With the skin care products available today, a simple daily 30 minute regimen can greatly enhance skin tone, skin elasticity, minimize age spots and wrinkles and provide other skin care benefits.

All of the advances in skin care products and treatments can be overwhelming. It can be difficult for consumers to keep up with the latest and greatest skin care products available. Oily Skin- Why Some Of Us Have Oily Skin

Tip! Use a moisturiser designed specifically for oily skin. Wildcrafted’s Avocado Day Crčme contains wholesome oils like Wheatgerm and cocoa butter that moisturise and hydrate the skin without leaving a greasy feeling and essential oils of orange blossom and lemon to cleanse and soothe.

Oily Skin- A Trouble?

Oily skin is a big trouble for many of us. Why our skin oozes more oils than others is a big mystery for the sufferers. The skin attracts more dirt and is more prone to acne. it has shining look and causes all types of cosmetic problems. Why do we have that kind of skin? Can we do something to eliminate this problem forever? Let us find out.

Skin- Why Does It Produce Oils?

Our skin produces sebum. This sebum is mainly made of lipids. The sebum protects us from microbial infections and keeps our skin moist. Along with sebum, we also produce sweat. Our skin also sheds dead skin cells. All these combine and form a layer on the skin. Those who have oily skin, produce more of sebum. Hormones mainly activate the sebum production and some of us are genetically conditioned to produce more oils. To learn more about sebum, click here. You should talk with your doctor if anything can be done with the hormones.

Tip! Genetic – Genes can be such that your parents passed on ‘the oily skin gene’ to you and that is just the way it is. But you don’t have to resign your self to having oily skin.

Oily Skin Management-

To manage oily skin the only common way is to use oil free products. Wash your face at least twice a day with soap. Use oil absorbing blotting papers. Use more of powder products. Astringents will remove lot of oil and so do the toners. Look after your oily skin because you will get fewer wrinkles than those who have dry skin. They will envy you after some years.

Oily Skin - Prevent Oily Skin by Adopting The Right Skin Care Regime

Tip! Two or three times a week use a deep cleansing mask specifically formulated for oily skin. Wildcrafted’s Green Earth Medicine Facial Clay has been specifically formulated for oily skin and includes ingredients such as Green Clay and Niaouli Hydrosol which are beneficial in treating your oily skin.

Causes of Oily Skin

Genetic - Genes can be such that your parents passed on ‘the oily skin gene’ to you and that is just the way it is. But you don’t have to resign your self to having oily skin. The right skin care regime will help to balance the pH of your skin and help you achieve a more ‘normal’ skin type.

Dietary - This is one area where you can have a strong influence. You choose what you eat and what you eat will affect your skin. Eat oily, greasy foods and your skin will reflect that. Eat healthy foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables and your skin will reflect that too. Some vegetables are particularly good to help balance your skin and help reduce the oiliness of your skin. Some include:

Tip! To manage oily skin the only common way is to use oil free products. Wash your face at least twice a day with soap.

Greens and fruits; drink Yarrow Tea; add Cucumber, parsley, Cabbage, Tomato to your cooking and salads.

Hormonal - Hormones influence your skin to a great extent. The birth control pill can cause some women to develop oily skin, while in others it can cause dryness of the skin. You should talk to your health professional about your concerns if you suspect your birth control pill to be causing you oily skin.

Pregnancy related - Pregnancy is a time when your body goes through a number of hormonal changes, these will tend to normalise themselves after birth, however, using a good quality, natural skin care regime can give you considerable relief while your pregnant and wish to get your oily skin under control.

Cosmetic products - Make sure your cosmetic products are natural, synthetic and artificial products have a habit of causing all sorts of skin reactions, apart from making your skin oilier than it already is.

Climatic - Hot, humid climates tend to cause oily skin. Again you can counteract this by using a high quality natural skin care regime and drinking lots of water (in excess of 3 litres per day).

Tip! Noncomedogenic moisturizers do not clog pores, and nonacnegenic moisturizers do not irritate pores. Look for the chemical benzyl peroxide, which helps reduce the amount of oil your glands produce and is a useful ingredient in lotions and creams designed for oily skin.

Most commonly, teenagers are most likely to be affected by oiliness of the skin a however, hormonal changes, such as pregnancy, puberty, menstrual cycles etc., can affect the sebum secretions of the skin and result in oily skin. Although, generally with age the skin tends to become dryer, oily skin can still be a problem even during the middle stages of life, often referred to as ‘middle age acne’. The up-side of oily skin is - it ages more slowly.

Skin Care for Oily Skin

First, let’s look at what NOT to do:

Do not wash your face more than once or twice a day.

Do not use soap to wash your face.

Do not use strongly astringent products (products that leaf your face feeling dry and dehydrated).

Now let’s look at what TO do:

Use a complete, natural skin care regime.

Tip! The cause of oily skin is not fully understood, but it is very likely that hereditary and lifestyle choices play a part. As well, those pesky hormone imbalances that occur most often in the teen years and also at menopause are a big part of the problem.

Wash your face no more than twice a day using a natural pH balanced cleanser. Wildcrafted’s Lemon Cleanser uses ingredients such as essential oils of Lemon and Lavender blended with Jojoba oil to cleanse, freshen and restore your skin.

Use a toner that is appropriate for oily skin. Wildcrafted’s Wild Herb Toner makes use of Witch hazel and Juniper Berry, which condition and tone the skin, while Grapefruit and Niaouli invigorate the skin prior to moisturising.

Use your natural skin care regime every single day.

Ensure your diet is very high in vegetables and very low in fatty foods.

Drink plenty of water each and every day!
